About Lahav

Educating couples on how to create loving, happy and vibrant marriages is one of Lahav's core goals. Such marriages are the foundation of healthy and successful families which are the cornerstone of our nation. Lahav's educational material conveys eternal Jewish values together with modern tools, skills and methods that help couples on their path of establishing their own strong family unit. We are non profit organization that formally became an Amuta in 2004.

Lahav's first project was our Chatan and Kallah project, which is still going strong. To give some background: In Israel, every couple must take a premarital class in order to receive a marriage license. Unfortunately, these classes can sometimes be lacking in sympathy, time flexibility, privacy and relevancy to the participants. Lahav offers alternative classes, in conjunction with the local religious councils (who facilitate these premarital classes). We are proud to provide these couples with relevant and meaningful Jewish content together with practical tools for making a successful marriage. Our meetings are offered in a one to one setting, allowing for a private, personal and individual experience. Lahav currently teaches 3,000 couples a year across Israel and is the sole provider of these classes in the cities of Jerusalem, Rechovot, Modiin, Chof Hasharon and Bat Yam. Our long term goal is to bring these classes to over 20,000 couples a year across Israel.

In recognition of our accomplishments, Lahav has received a grant from the Prime Ministers Office and the Minister of Israeli Society and Heritage to create workshops which offer a more in-depth education of the most important skills and tools needed in creating a loving family. These "Marriage Essentials" workshops were composed by noted Jerusalem marriage educator, Dr. Shula Wittenstein Psy.D. In addition to her own material, she has included ideas, concepts and methods from some of the most noted marriage education experts in the world today, including Dr. John Gottman, Dr. Virgina Satir and Dr. Howard Markman among others.

The "Marriage Essentials" workshops are given to groups of couples together and include fun and insightful exercises which make for a dynamic learning experience. The workshops focus on communication skills, decision making and self awareness. The couples discuss their core values and explore whether their expectations are realistic and understood. Tools are taught on how to compromise and insights of how to deepen their intimacy. We encourage the couples to learn these simple yet extremely effective tools and review them in order to build and sustain a positive and successful relationship - the most important relationship they will have in their lives – with their spouse!
All of Lahav's programs are free of cost.

Lahav's Core Goals

To educate couples with strategies of how to create loving, happy and vibrant marriages and how to build and maintain strong and functional families. To ensure that meetings between religious and secular Jews are positive, respectful and focus on unity and our joint heritage.

To teach Jews about their heritage in a meaningful and relevant manner which shows the beauty of our Torah and Mitzvot, which for many creates the desire to learn more and incorporate these Jewish values into their lives.

Lahav's Philosophy

The family unit is, and has always been, a cornerstone of our people. In Jewish marriage lies a key to a happy life which gives deep meaning when invested in properly.

The Torah is the wisdom of life which teaches us how to derive the greatest pleasure and benefit from the potential inherent inside us. Mitzvot are not empty ceremonial acts, but rather opportunities for personal growth, and for that we must learn and understand them. Every Jew should be respected regardless of their connection to religion or observance.
